Quality visual design helps to convey important messages, shape behaviours, and drive action. It has even more profound influence in urban settings, where dense populations are creating environments ripe for innovation, action, and societal change. Skilfully utilising the power of visual design here, will therefore help to influence progress, in not just SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities); but across the entire board of sustainable development goals.
What's the vision?
We have a vision that 25 years from now, our cities will be full of thriving, healthy, and inclusive communities. Nature will start to flourish in our urban spaces, through communal green areas, rewilding, and urban agriculture projects. This will contribute to an urban realm where natural biodiversity can thrive, locally grown nutritious food is accessible to city residents, and people are drawn to spend more time outside in nature.
The city will be designed for people, not cars. Residents will travel using innovative carbon neutral public transport, micro-mobility, or by foot. This will contribute to a city landscape that encourages activity and healthier lifestyles, improves air quality, and reduces noise pollution.
Our cities will employ principles of circular economy, meaning commodities are reused, repurposed, and reformed to ensure we don't dispose of more than what's necessary. We'll be on our path to restoring our earth and sustaining the planet for generations to come.
All this is a result of us being able to successfully create increased visibility, recognition, engagement and trust for those organisations working towards sustainable and regenerative cities. These well-intentioned sustainable organisations became beacons of light and fearless visionaries. They started providing rejuvenation, hope, and positive change to our cities. This enabled disempowered residents to become collaborative change makers, and as a result, we slowly began to see oppressive, concrete jungles become green, healthy centres of regenerative change.
So, what do you say? Are you onboard for the ride?
I'm a freelance Graphic Designer from Nottingham, UK, but recently relocated to France.
It was through my BASc in Global Sustainable Development, where I first started studying the realm of urban sustainability and health.
In 2022, I went on to start Metari Design, at the time, a design studio working with positive impact brands.
In 2024, I brought the two realms together and repositioned the brand to what it is today: graphic & brand identity design for visionary organisations in urban sustainability.
So, if you're looking for a Graphic Designer that understands urban sustainability or SGD 11, I'm your woman, let's chat!
